The Consultation - what is involved?

The nutritional consultation is for you and your goals with the aim of devising a healthy food plan that is achievable for you and to fit in with the life you want to lead.
Prior to your nutritional consultation:

Once your consultation has been booked, you will be emailed a questionnaire to complete covering health problems, symptoms, nutrient status, lifestyle and current diet. It can be completed on a computer and emailed back. Alternatively the questionnaire can be posted. This forms the basis of the consultation and gives the nutritional therapist a good basis of information to develop.

During the initial nutritional consultation:

Your nutritional therapist will discuss further details with you regarding your past diet, health issues, family medical history, current eating patterns, lifestyle, the environment you live and work in and clarification of your goals and expectations. She will give an explanation of what the priorities are, causes of your symptoms and time frames of treatment. You will find out what your metabolic bio-type is and what food plan best suits your type. Recommendations on specific foods to increase and decrease are given.

Bio-chemical tests also may be recommended at this stage to help identify the best strategy, such as hair mineral analysis, food intolerance test, and digestive and hormone tests. If tests are needed, the results will be analysed, discussed and an appropriate course of action agreed with you in a second consultation.

You will receive a personalised strategy for health with a food plan, meal suggestions and shopping list. Also advice may be given on lifestyle changes and recommendations for vitamin/mineral supplements if appropriate.

Follow up consultations:

During the first consultation, your nutritional therapist will discuss how many times you potentially will need to achieve your goals. It is usual to have a first follow up after one month to check how everything is going and to make any necessary adjustments. A 2-3 month check up is then advised. There may be a need to return for any test results as the dietary plan will need to be tailored to accommodate this. On average, clients usually require three consultations to achieve optimal results.
